Sea Lion Hunting | Photograph by Nick Polanszky ( @nickpolanszkyphotography) .
“Sardines swarm around the small rock island of Los Islotes in Espiritu Santo Marine Park. California sea lions residing near the island have an ample food source, but catching one of these sardines is not an easy task. With such large numbers, it is too difficult to single one out for a catch,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Nick Polanszky. “This lone seal lion is swooping in to try and separate a sardine from the protection of their group.” This photo was submitted to our “For Your Shot Instagram” assignment. “Wow, this is awesome. Great seeing, fantastic job composing this photo. I love how the silhouette of the sea lion pushes the flow of the sardines off frame, as they try to escape during this hunt. I love how the sardines are all swimming in unison. Thanks for the detailed caption explaining what I am looking at, I didn't know that "with such large numbers, it is too difficult to single one out for a catch." I bet this was an amazing experience to witness in real life. Well done.” — @natgeoyourshot Producer David Y. Lee ( @davidylee)
